The Flag Park of Hamina is being planned in the parks within the urban area of Hamina. The parks will house the flags of the 193 member states of the United Nations on standard-size 9-metre flagpoles in the configuration of the world map.

The Flag Park will provide information on the culture and society of each country using state-of-the-art technology. The symbolism involved in the flags will be used to describe the history of each country.

The objective is that the Monumental Flag, Path of the Flag of Finland and the Flag Park would be illuminated throughout the year, in which case they serve as a work of light and as an attraction also in the dark hours of the day. This would also avoid the daily hoisting and lowering of the flags.

The flags have to be renewed every year. The original flags received as donations will be later placed indoors in the collections of the Flag Centre.
