Entrepreneurs' morning coffees will focus on municipal barometer results and other current issues

Hamina Mayor Ilari Soosalu's morning coffee for entrepreneurs on Friday 5.6 June discussed, among other things, the results of the Municipal Barometer, the measures for the goals of Hamina's vitality program and vitality promise, and other current issues.

The national municipal barometer survey surveys the cooperation between municipalities and entrepreneurs and the state of economic policy at national, regional and municipal levels every two years. Hamina ranked 39th in its own size category (medium-sized municipalities) in the overall results (in 2024 the ranking was 50th). There were 91 respondents from Hamina (in 2024, 75 respondents).

Sini Huhtala, Chairman of the Hamina Entrepreneurs Association presented the results at the event. The municipal barometer results highlighted the success of, for example, the area's business services, entrepreneurship education and the city's information on procurement. In addition, the responses highlighted that Hamina is perceived as a good place to live. 

According to Hamina's results, there is room for improvement, for example, in the business orientation of decision-making, in increasing the attractiveness of the city as a place to live, and in attracting new companies. Measures of Hamina's vitality program and vitality promise 

Director of Vitality of the City of Hamina Mia Hamalainen presented the measures that have been taken to implement the goals of the vitality program during the first half of the year. The themes of Hamina's vitality program are: Hamina increases its international position, a home port for innovations, decision-making that supports business activities and Hamina increases its attractiveness. Mia Hämäläinen also presented the measures taken in Hamina's vitality pledge, which the City of Hamina and the Hamina Entrepreneurs' Association have signed in early 2026. The themes of the vitality pledge are: effective dialogue, business impact assessment, smooth planning and permit processes and entrepreneur-friendly procurement. Other current events

The event also selected the 2026 Entrepreneur of the Year Award winner as a joint candidate of Hamina's entrepreneurs and the city. The 2026 Entrepreneur of the Year Award winners from Hamina, as well as other municipalities in southern Kymenlaakso, will be announced at the Entrepreneur Gala in September 2026.

Finally, Hamina Mayor Ilari Soosalu gave an overview of how the City of Hamina's austerity measures affect the city's business life.  

Actions agreed upon at the event:

  • The City of Hamina's market dialogues as part of the tendering process: increased communication will also be provided to entrepreneur associations 
  • Hamina Tervasaari port area closure trial: increasing communication about the trial's effects on both business operations and the development of security in the area
  • The vitality pledge and the measures of the Hamina vitality program will next be discussed at the mayor's coffee mornings in the autumn. 
  • Development targets identified based on the results of the Municipal Barometer will be promoted. The goal in the next Municipal Barometer survey in 2028 is to reach the TOP 10 in its own size category and increase the number of respondents to 150.
