Swimming on the long sands is not recommended.

Elevated concentrations of E. coli and intestinal enterococcus bacteria have been detected in a sample taken from the Pitkienhiekoki beach on July 7, 2026.

E. coli bacteria and intestinal enterococci are indicators of fecal contamination. Fecal contamination of swimming water can cause adverse health effects for swimmers, such as nausea, stomach and skin symptoms.

Enterococcus bacteria, which are of intestinal origin, are often found in the feces of humans and warm-blooded animals, but they can also originate from the environment. Heavy rains in recent weeks may have affected the microbiological quality of the beach water.

Swimming at the beach is not recommended. The recommendation is in effect until further notice.
