What kind of cultural city is Hamina? Welcome to discuss the topic!

Hamina's cultural program is being prepared in Hamina during this autumn and winter. In connection with the programming work, an open cultural program survey was organized for the residents of the municipality during the late summer and early autumn. It asked, among other things, about the respondents' own cultural hobbies and what kind of cultural service content the respondents find meaningful, or whether they identify any obvious obstacles to participating in the services. A total of 400 responses were received to the survey.

– A gratifying number, many thanks to everyone who responded! says Laura Korhonen, Hamina's library and cultural services manager. Since we want to involve the residents of the municipality in the preparation of the cultural program throughout the process, we next want to discuss with the residents the themes that emerged from the survey responses.

Hamina Cultural Services invites local residents to join in two discussion events during the autumn. They will jointly map out What kind of cultural city Hamina is, what we hope it will be like in the future, and what kind of guidelines and measures are expected from the cultural program.

For everyone open Discussion sessions will be held in the Kasper Hall of Hamina Main Library. Monday, September 21.9th, 17.30 am – 19.00 pm and Tuesday, November 3rd, 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM. Coffee will be served at the event. No advance registration is required.

The aim of the cultural programme is to make the city's own cultural work and that of various cooperation networks visible, and to jointly identify the special features, strengths and needs of the entire cultural field in Hamina. Involving residents, associations and companies in making and experiencing culture, as well as building and supporting cooperation networks related to culture, are not only the basic values of cultural programme work, but also concrete results as the programme work progresses. When the structures of cultural work are carefully examined, they also become an identified resource that can work for the benefit of many different actors.

The cultural program is intended to serve as a toolkit for defining the goals of the city's cultural work, as well as policies and measures until 2030. During the process, personnel from the city's own departments, cultural work, education and training, as well as children and young people from Hamina, will also be consulted.

More information about the program can be found on the City of Hamina website:

The website also allows you to anonymously provide feedback and ideas for cultural programming. This way, all thoughts and ideas will be collected in one place, and the information can be utilized constructively in preparing the programming.
