Wasted week's produce

Eighth graders at Vehkalahti School created so-called waste food during Waste Week. The collaboration with Itäväylä grocery store has been going on for years.

Red money boxes for a good cause.

On the last Thursday and Friday of September, a hunger day collection was organized at Husula School. You could put an appropriate amount of money in the red box or not, if you wanted. All the money donated will be used for a good cause through the Finnish Red Cross, in places where there is a great need for help.

The Great Reading Competition is coming to Hamina

A reading competition to test children's reading skills will soon be held in Hamina. It is a reading competition between schools starting in October. The school that has accumulated the most reading minutes wins. In this competition, large and small schools have an equal chance of succeeding, because the minutes are proportional to the number of students. All reading minutes at school and in free time are counted, regardless of the language and what is read, magazines, books, comics, game instructions, etc. There will be both school-specific and individual prizes.

Elections were held in schools

Hamina schools voted for members of their school's student union board. Standing as a candidate and campaigning for the election was voluntary. The candidate with the most votes from each grade level was elected to the board. Candidates from preschools also participated in the elections, if the school has a preschool. The photo is from Vehkalahti School.

The students' wish list has been fulfilled.

Students were asked about their school food preferences in February. There were four options: a) Tortilla with minced meat or vegetable filling b) Oven sausage and mashed potatoes c) Chicken nuggets, dipping sauce and rice d) Minced meat kebabs, dipping sauce and creamed potatoes.

The clear winner was option a) Tortilla with minced meat or vegetable filling. Second place was option c) Chicken nuggets, dipping sauce and rice, and third place was option d) Minced meat kebabs, dipping sauce and creamed potatoes.

The Favorite Food Day is on Friday, March 21.3st, when the winning dish will be served. The second and third place dishes will also be listed later this spring.

Representatives of the student councils of all Hamina schools came to the Town Hall to meet with the chairmen of the committees.

SCHOOL STUDENTS' QUESTIONNAIRE AT THE CITY HALL

An unusual event was held at the Town Hall on January 30.1th, when student council representatives and committee chairmen from all Hamina schools gathered for a so-called question hour. The schoolchildren had prepared well with tough questions, which concerned, among other things, the covering of the baseball field's grandstand, the sports facilities at Uuden-Summa School, the closure of small schools, and the organization of park events for children and young people. The event lasted an hour, but there would have been enough questions for the next hour.
