The City Council met on October 13, 2025.

The Hamina City Council convened for its first meeting of 2026 at the Town Hall on Monday, January 12, 2026. The meeting decided, among other things, to launch a service network study. When organizing services, the city must take into account the decrease in the number of students in the coming years, as well as the increased costs of education and changes to the Basic Education Act. The service network study contributes to the city's strategic goals, ensuring the high quality of early childhood education and education, a sustainable economy, and adapting the service network to meet needs. An expert group consisting of officials and planners will conduct the necessary background studies, compile the necessary materials, enable the implementation of the inclusion and child impact assessment, and prepare a proposal for the implementation of the service network for the city council and the city council to approve by the end of May.

In addition, the meeting approved, among other things, the acquisition of consulting support aimed at economic adjustment and the making of an SVOP investment in Hamina Merivesilaitos Oy.

After review, the minutes will be available on the city's website from October 15, 2025.
