Support for learning and going to school
According to the Basic Education Act, students have the right to receive support for their learning and schooling when they need it. The goal is for students to receive support for their learning and schooling early, in a timely and appropriate manner.
Early support within your own group
All students have the right teaching arrangements that support the conditions for learningThis means, for example, that the teaching organizer pays attention to group sizes and takes into account the students' support needs when forming teaching groups. Teaching arrangements that support the conditions for learning also include, for example, teaching differentiation according to the needs of the students, language-aware teaching, supporting learning use of assistive devices and situations anticipation or structuring with the help of pictures.
All students also have the right to group-specific forms of support. Group-specific forms of support include general support teaching, support teaching in the language of instruction, and teaching given by a special needs teacher in connection with other teaching. In group-specific forms of support, teaching groups can be divided more flexibly into various smaller groups with the help of several teachers.
Student-specific support measures
If the student's teachers assess that the teaching arrangements and group-specific forms of support that support the learning conditions are not sufficient to support the student's learning and school attendance, the student may receive: as a student-specific support measure for example, regular teaching in a small group by a special needs teacher or teaching in a special class format. Student-specific support measures are long-term, and an administrative decision is made on them based on an assessment of the student's individual support needs and a plan.
Student support services alongside learning and schooling support
All students also have the right to student support services. Student support services can supplement the learning or schooling support a student receives.
