Hamina Upper Secondary School is a comprehensive upper secondary school offering high-quality education. Our students have a high graduation rate and our graduates have placed well and versatilely in both further studies and working life.

We have performed well in upper secondary school comparisons and in the spring 2024 comparison we were the best upper secondary school in Kymenlaakso.

There are approximately 230 full-time students, in addition to which approximately 40 dual degree students are completing upper secondary school studies at our school. There are over twenty teachers.

Hamina Upper Secondary School is a versatile educational institution. There are a large number of elective courses in different subjects, considering the size of the school. The sizes of the teaching groups are moderate.

We have a minimum average of 7.0. The average of the subjects in the comprehensive school leaving certificate must be at least 7.0 to be admitted to us.

We are part of the South Kymenlaakso Sports Academy (EKA), which enables morning training for ambitious athletes. The South Kymenlaakso Sports Academy is part of the national sports academy network. Hamina High School has been a member of EKA for about 15 years. Every year, about 40 students from Hamina High School participate in the academy activities.

Our school atmosphere is open and relaxed. An active student body and tutors are an important part of our school's activities. If you are interested in increasing your general education and extensive further study opportunities, Hamina High School is a great option for completing your upper secondary school studies.

The joint application for spring 2026 is February 18-March 18, 2025.

There are 128 starting places for the general line. The equestrian line is not included in the spring 2026 joint application.

In addition to the joint application, you must complete the electronic subject selection form by March 17, 2026.

The results of the joint application will be published on June 12, 2025.

If you are selected to attend Hamina Upper Secondary School, you will receive a letter home in June with information about the start of school. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the upper secondary school's study counselors or principal.

The study place will be accepted electronically in the My Study Pathway service by June 26, 2025.

“Hamina High School is a really nice place! For a small high school, there are a lot of different activities here, including tutors, a choir and a student council. The course offering includes a wide range of courses in different subjects and a wide range of opportunities, such as participating in a sports academy or completing a high school diploma in several different subjects. The teachers are competent and work hard to help the students. It is easy to get to know your fellow students and work with even strangers. The school building is well located and close to the city center. For example, in the library you can lounge on beanbag chairs and in the multi-purpose room there is a ping-pong table, a punching bag and an exercise bike downstairs, which anyone can use to charge their phone. Each student also has the opportunity to reserve time in the multi-purpose room and play the instruments there.”
