The Hamina Education and Training Committee will meet on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at 17:00 PM at the Town Hall.

The meeting's agenda includes, among other things, an extended opportunity to complete basic education for children, supporting Kymenlaakso College's application for a permit to organize basic education for adults, and updating the rents for educational and training services.

Key topics of the meeting:

  • Providing basic education for children up to the age of 18: The committee is considering a proposal that would allow two specified groups of students to study in basic education until the day their compulsory education ends at the age of 18. This would apply to students who have started the school year later than prescribed and have repeated a grade, as well as students who have arrived in Finland in the final stages of basic education.
  • Kymenlaakso College's basic adult education: The committee is asked to give a favorable opinion on the application by the Kymenlaakson Opisto Support Association for a permit to provide basic Finnish-language adult education in Hamina starting on August 1, 2027. The education would diversify Hamina's educational offerings and would, for example, enable the education of adults who cannot read or write and complete comprehensive school without causing additional costs to the city.
  • Early childhood education in another municipality: The meeting will present the criteria for approval on the conditions under which the City of Hamina can grant a payment commitment for early childhood education in another municipality. The criteria may include, for example, child welfare placement, linguistic rights or logistical compelling reasons related to a commute of more than 15 kilometers.
  • Update on space rents: The rental price list for educational and training services is proposed to be updated as of September 1, 2026. The change applies to the value-added tax on sports facilities, which has been updated to 13,5 percent.
