Harbor tug Merikarhu
The museum tugboat located at the Tervasaari pier is one of 718 tugboats built in the United States that participated in the Normandy landings at the end of World War II. The tugboat ended up in Finland through an Allied surplus warehouse, from which it was purchased to replace tugboats handed over to the Soviet Union as war reparations.
The ship arrived in 1952 as a port tug in Hamina and was renamed Merikarhu. It served in the port until 1990, when it was transferred to a museum ship.
The museum tugboat is maintained by the Merikarhu Heritage Association.
