The People Power Project

Väen voima is a project to promote inclusion and cultural well-being. It has a community- and place-based, as well as action research-based approach and a mission to involve the entire adult population of Hamina, either directly or indirectly. The project's goal is to create collaborative models of cultural activities and cultural work structures that best serve the community at the present time. Local residents are wanted to be involved in the planning of services and activities, but also in the implementation and evaluation. Check out the events of the Väen voima project below.

The People's Power project is supported by the Arts Promotion Centre Finland.

Welcome to try aunty parkour!

Suvi-Maria Helin from the Kouvola tätiparkour group will be there to introduce everyone interested to tätiparkour. In line with the ideology of parkour, tätiparkourers utilize their environment, such as poles, railings, trees and walls, in their movement.

Despite its name, everyone is welcome to join the activity: uncles, aunts and others. Aunty is an attitude: you act without performing, listening to yourself and according to your own resources. The activity is based on physical presence and interaction, so it is easy to join the group, even if you do not speak Finnish fluently. Aunty parkour, or tantparkour, has its roots in Sweden. Under the leadership of its developer, Maria Ringsén, the sport has become a real phenomenon in the neighboring country.

Improvisations

During the autumn, there is something happening at the Vehkalahti Village Museum (Kuninkaantie 3, Hamina)! On four Wednesdays, the museum will host improv jams.

Anyone who is passionate about music, dance, theatre and the arts can join. The evenings are free training sessions that consist of the joy of expression and the joy of doing. The evening includes both guided improvisation exercises and spontaneous throwing yourself into the action.

The trainings are also open to the public, so you can come and see what's going on and decide if you want to join in. The improv evenings are free of charge and their purpose is to find a completely new way of expressing yourself together. Players bring their own instrument to the trainings. The improv evenings are jams that are suitable for professionals and beginners alike. The instructors are musician Tomi Pekkola and dance artist Heli Kärki. Welcome!
