Children's culture
Hamina offers a wide range of events and recreational opportunities for children and young people, including in the field of culture.
Hamina's Town Cultural Services, in cooperation with other city departments and local associations, libraries, museums and individual artists and art educators, produce a variety of events and workshops for children and families, as well as other services throughout the year. Kino Hamina shows high-quality Finnish and foreign films for different ages and the whole family all year round. The academic year study group activities of Hamina Adult Education Centre, Kotka Regional Music Institute and the Taito Etelä-Suomi handicraft organisation supplement recreation opportunities in basic art education. The Hamina recreation model also includes culturally related hobby activities as part of the school day in Hamina's basic education.
The central concept of children's culture is the cultural education plan for basic education, the Cultural Path, which offers specific art content to each year group, including the entire age group.
Special emphasis will be placed on children's culture offerings in February.During children's cultural weeks, in OctoberFairytale weekand also, among other things, summer events,Night of Lights -festival and Christmas events. The Town of Hamina cooperates closely with the region in the field of children's culture.Children and youth cultural network KOPPA All municipalities in Kymenlaakso and Loviisa are included. With these partners, Hamina Cultural Services is applying for joint operating grants for the development of children's culture and is jointly producing the February Children's cultural weeks event.
Arts education
Basic art education is art education given during free time at local art schools. It is goal-oriented, tied to the national curriculum, and taught by trained professionals in the field.
In Hamina, you can apply for basic art education in three different art fields:
- music: Kotka Regional Music Institute
- visual arts: Hamina Community College
- theatre arts: Hamina Community College
Children's Cultural Weeks
Children's Culture Weeks are organized annually by the children's and youth culture network KOPPA. KOPPA encompasses the Hamina, Kotka, Kouvola, Loviisa, Pyhtää, Miehikkälä and Virolahti areas. The KOPPA network has been a member of the National Network of Children's Culture Centers since 2009.
Harrasta kotona (Do Hobbies at Home)
The Finnish Association of Children's Cultural Centers has opened an online art and culture center for children and young people. Harrasta kotona (Do Hobbies at Home) The website offers a variety of activities, as well as art and cultural experiences, easily and free of charge.
The pages contain instructions and ideas for experimenting with and practicing art, produced by professionals. The easy-to-use pages have been selected for art making, from parkour to circus and from comics to dance. A child can explore the pages alone or with a parent. The content of the pages can also be used in distance learning. The pages also contain performance recordings, virtual visits and a calendar showing upcoming livestream performances. The pages are produced in Finnish and Swedish.
