Children's Cultural Weeks

February is the theme month of children's culture in Kaakonkulma! The Children's Culture Weeks bring diverse art experiences to children of all ages in early childhood education and basic education units, but also opportunities for families to experience culture together. The event complex is created in close cooperation with various departments of the City of Hamina and Hamina-based associations and organizations. Equal accessibility and quality of content are the cornerstones of the Culture Weeks.

2.2.-5.3.2026 The world of nature and animals – exhibition (see library opening hours)
Location: Hamina Main Library (Library Gallery), Rautatienkatu 8
The photography exhibition offers a glimpse into the forest and meadow, among other things, and into the everyday lives of several different animal species. — Each animal has its own story – some hide, some look directly at the camera, says photographer Hostikka.

In the exhibition, children, together with their adults, can think about, for example, what kind of sound this animal makes; where the animal lives and what kind of family it has. Some of the animals we know are such that the child or even their parents may never have met them in real life. Nature is full of many kinds of friends and wonders — Will the viewer recognize all the plants and trees, or animals in the pictures, Hostikka ponders. A photography exhibition can also be a good place to examine one's own relationship with nature, and how other kinds of nature are part of one's everyday life.

Mon 9.2.2026 The Prince and the Flower musical theatre performance at 12:15-12:55
Location: Hamina Theatre, Isoympyräkatu 30 A
Experienced music educator and performer Tuuli Paasolainen has prepared the Prince and the Flower musical theatre performance for 0–9-year-olds. The performance is well suited for the youngest members of the family, as well as children and adults who speak Finnish as a second language. Music acts as a mediator, even if the viewer does not understand all the words. The Prince in the performance dreams of a miraculously beautiful flower he sees in a dream and sets out to find it. The performance invites us to consider whether a person can miss out on wonderful opportunities if they only pursue one dream image in their life. The work is based on a fairy tale written by Ingrid Mylo (adapted as a musical theatre performance by Tuuli Paasolainen). The performance also features flute music composed by Debussy, Satie and Mozart, among others. The duration is 40 minutes.

Wed 18.2.2026 HULINA – comedy for babies and toddlers at 9:15 and 10:00
Location: Hamina Main Library (Kasper Hall), Rautatienkatu 8
HULINA – a comedy aimed at babies and toddlers (0–3 years) with their own adults. A comedy performance by one clown dedicated to babies about the impossibility of going to sleep. The performance is about a baby's laughter and sense of humor – about what is funny and how funny transports you to strange worlds. The shows in the Kasper Hall start at 9:15 and 10:00. The performance lasts 25 minutes. Places are limited, so make sure you are there by registering for the performance in advance: tel. 040 1991 310.

Sat 21.2.2026 Children's Winter Event 10:00-13:00
Location: Hamina Summer Park
There will be winter activities and socializing. Children will be offered sausages and juice, and the opportunity to warm up by a sausage fire. Local singing sensation Emma Daniels will climb onto the terrace stage of the Park Hall at some point during the day to sing children's songs, and Mutte-Poni will also be giving the children a ride.

Sat 21.2.2026 Yhtessoittoa music workshops at 12:00-15:00
Location: Hamina City Museum (basement), Kadettikoulunkatu 2
Come play and sing together with your children or grandchildren. You can bring your own kantele or ukulele, but you can also borrow an instrument.
Työpajat: 12:00-12:30, 12:30-13:00, 13:15-13:45, 13:45-14:15, 14:30-15:00.
One group can accommodate a maximum of 12 people.

Sat 21.2.2026 Animal Poems and Poem Map Workshop at 11:30-12:00
Location: Hamina Main Library (Library Gallery), Rautatienkatu 8
Open poetry and art workshop for families with children. Children's author Tuukka Sandström and visual artist Varpu Eronen's Animal Poems and a Map of Poems workshop combines words and visual art. Sandström and Eronen read animal poems to children, after which they draw a Map of Poems together on a large piece of paper. Target group: from kindergarten age to preschoolers.

Sat 21.2.2026 Magic Winter performance at 13:00 PM
Location: Summa Village and Cultural Center, Summantie 46
In the winter wonderland you can experience and see the chilling frost, soft floating snowflakes, playing snowmen and frozen snow queens. The show will take you to a captivating winter wonderland.” The Hamina Teen Circus show is suitable for viewers of all ages. Duration approximately 30 minutes. Free admission!

Sat 28.2.2026 Family Stunt Track Day 12:00-13:30 and 14:00-15:30
Location: Summa Village and Cultural Center, Summantie 46
Welcome the little ones of the family to perform tricks at the Hamina Teen Circus!
A large trick track will be built in the circus hall, where climbing, hanging, jumping and having fun are allowed! An instructor will be on hand to guide you in using the circus equipment. The trick track is aimed at children under school age. 1 workshop/family. Free admission!
