National Veterans Day
National Veterans Day is celebrated annually on April 27th in honor of Finland's war veterans and in commemoration of the end of the war and the beginning of peace. The holiday is honored with festive flags and laying wreaths at the war heroes' graves and also at the Lottie Memorial Stone in the Summer Park. Veterans Day was named by the Finnish Government at the initiative of veterans' organizations in 1986. Next year, the traditional celebration will celebrate its 40th anniversary, but this year also has an important milestone; last autumn it was 80 years since the end of the Continuation War.
