Changes to the Hamina Peace Monument

During the past week, a new stone Hamina Peace Monument made of Kaskei beige granite, manufactured by Sorvikivi Oy, was installed in the old location at the southern end of the Hamina Town Hall.

The change to the monument was made due to repeated vandalism of the glass monument.

A metal quill pen was moved from the original monument designed by city architect Vesa Pohjola. The texts are cast in bronze on the stone. The symbols of the three kingdoms; Finland, the Russian Empire and the King of Sweden are attached to the stone.

The glass Hamina Peace Monument, made by Anne Takanen of Sevenon Oy, which was previously located on the site, was moved to the storage facilities of the City of Hamina. The glass work will be placed in the lobby of the new City Hall.

In the picture, there is a large gray granite stone in front of a yellow building. On the stone is a metal quill pen and texts in Finnish, Swedish and Russian about the signing of the Peace of Hamina on September 17, 1809 in Hamina.
