The City of Hamina is reviewing the terms of the Mäkelänkangas transaction in light of new information – the claims in the claim for rectification are otherwise unfounded
At its meeting on 15 June, the Hamina City Board discussed the request for rectification made by the Finnish Nature Conservation Association's Kaakkois-Kymen Yhdistys ry, which concerns the decision made by the City Board on 27 April 2026 (§ 88) to purchase land from the Mäkelänkangas industrial area.
The city government decided accept the claim for rectification in part and reject it as unfounded in the remaining parts.
The partial acceptance of the claim for rectification is due to the fact that new facts have emerged in the case since the original decision, which require further investigation of the relevant background information. It was decided to return the case for re-examination due to negotiations with the seller regarding the purchase price and the materials available in the area.
The claim for rectification was accepted only to the extent that it stated that the purchase price may have been too high. Most of the claims and justifications presented in the claim for rectification were unfounded.
The matter will be decided again by the city council in the fall.
Additional information and minutes
More detailed additional justifications for the decision can be found in the public minutes, which will be published on the website of the City of Hamina. 17.6.2026.
