Environmental health care
The task and goal of environmental health surveillance is to maintain and promote the health of the population and individuals, and to prevent, reduce and eliminate factors in the living environment that can cause health hazards and accidents. Environmental health surveillance is responsible for the following areas of responsibility in the municipalities of Hamina, Virolahti and Miehikkälä, among others:
- food control
- health protection law enforcement
- tobacco control

Control plan
Environmental health legislation requires municipalities to have a monitoring plan. The monitoring plan describes, among other things, the inspections and sampling that are part of the sector. Monitoring is carried out in accordance with the monitoring plan approved by the permit committee.
Fees for supervision
The municipality charges the operator a fee according to the approved rate for approving apartments and processing notifications, as well as for the inspection, sampling and sample analysis included in the control plan. In addition, the municipality charges the annual basic control fee provided for in the Food Act (297/2021) and the Health Protection Act (763/1994) from the subjects of systematic control.
