Stormwater management and water protection
The city of Hamina has received a grant from the South Savo Regional Development Agency for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment for a project aimed at improving water protection in the management of stormwater in Hamina.

The project is part of water protection efficiency program, which is funded by the Ministry of the Environment. The funding received for the project from the Ministry of the Environment is 69,550 euros.
The project will be implemented in three phases between January 1, 2023 and June 15, 2025.
-
During the first phase of the project (6 months), measurements of the quantity and quality of stormwater will be taken in different target areas and the pollutants present in stormwater will be investigated.
The second phase of the project (6 months) will examine stormwater management methods and structures. The goal is to find cost-effective methods to reduce the harm caused by stormwater.
The results of the first and second phases will be utilized in the third phase of the project (6-12 months), which aims to develop cooperation between different parties, clarify responsibilities and create good practices in everyday work. During the project, improvement targets will be selected, the planning and implementation of which will consider how water protection can be better taken into account from the perspectives of different actors.
The project will provide residents with more information about the importance of stormwater in water protection. It is hoped that the project will increase residents' interest in the state of their homes and living environments.
